  • Landmark Park is celebrating Spring Farm Day this weekend.  Dothan Eagle
  • The 2025 Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo is set for March 21—23 at Channell-Lee Stadium in Opp, featuring live snake demonstrations, carnival rides, a 5K run, and music from Confederate Railroad, Tracy Lawrence, and Shane Owens and Shenandoah. The event, a local tradition since 1960, also offers a pageant and educational displays on rattlesnake safety along with early-bird ticket discounts and free admission for children 10 and under.  Wiregrass Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • Brundidge Police Chief Sam Green and two others, Sharon Jones Green and Schemillia Levera Fenn, were arrested on Thursday on federal charges for a loan fraud scheme using the Emergency Rental Assistance Program — they are in custody and must appear in court today and may face up to 20 years in prison.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Federal agents surrounded Brundidge Police Chief Samuel Green’s home early this morning and arrested him, his wife, and a relative on allegations of misappropriating COVID PPE funds — they were taken to Montgomery for arraignment.  Rickey Stokes News

  • The Wiregrass Blues Festival is set to take place soon in Dothan — local and national blues musicians will perform and officials plan to share details on the schedule and tickets soon.  Dothan Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lindsay Ball and Debra Ruffin are in Washington, D.C. at a national conference to meet with lawmakers and ask for more federal funds for school meal programs and to ease unpaid meal debt. They say better funding is needed to fight rising food costs (which have caused supply issues and staffing shortages) and to ensure students get nutritious meals.  Wiregrass Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Houston County VOAD will open Safer Places shelters at Westgate Church of Christ and First Baptist Dothan starting at 7 p.m. Saturday for residents in unsafe living conditions as severe weather approaches—residents must bring pillows, blankets, and other supplies since meals will not be provided.  Wiregrass Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Dothan Blast basketball team won the state championship in the Special Olympics tournament (marking a major victory for local athletes), showing their skill and hard work.  Dothan Eagle
