- ➤ On Friday morning, Dupree School was recognized as a historic place when County Commissioner Tracy Adams presented a $10,000 check and plaque to honor its federal significance. Local leaders plan upgrades with accessible restrooms and a new kitchen — the school at 1116 Antioch Church Road will host bluegrass events on March 21st at 5:30 p.m. and March 22nd at 11 a.m. and may serve as a future voting location. - ➤ Ronald McDonald House Charities is partnering with all Alabama McDonald’s locations for its annual Shamrock Shake fundraiser which donates 25 cents from each shake to families in need. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dothan city commissioners will vote for Randy Morris as city manager on Tuesday, March 18th — he has served as interim city manager for nine months. Morris has 27 years of service — replacing Kevin Cowper after his nearly 5-year term ended amid controversy. WDHN
- ➤ Governor Ivey declared a state of emergency for all 67 counties ahead of severe weather that may hit this weekend, with the declaration starting today at 2:00 p.m. central. She urged residents to monitor local forecasts — prepare for dangerous conditions and heed local warnings as the emergency will remain until the threat subsides. Wiregrass Daily News
- ➤ At the Tuesday city commission meeting, Dothan will officially name Interim City Manager Randy Morris as City Manager. Morris (an Ozark native who has worked for the city for 27 years, including five years as assistant city manager) will earn $225,000 a year. Rickey Stokes News
