COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mary Colburn from Wiregrass Give’s and Krystal Diaz from the Powerhouse Women’s Club discussed their work to empower local women in the Wiregrass region and announced a Women’s Empowerment Event on March 20th at 5:30 p.m. at Taj Indian & Greek Restaurant—where guests will enjoy networking, live music, a talent show, a fashion show, and a 360 photo booth.  Wiregrass Daily News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fire crews from Ashford and Cowarts responded to a fire at Weeks Trailer Park in Ashford that began in one trailer and spread to a neighbor’s unit—explosions were reported as officials investigate a refrigerator malfunction while firefighters work to contain the blaze and no injuries were reported.  Wiregrass Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • Latasha Renae Bryant from Dothan was charged with first-degree arson for a fire on Bell St. on March 8th—police said she spread an accelerant around a home with three people inside, no significant injuries were reported, and her bond is set at $60,000.  Rickey Stokes News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Dothan Area Young Professionals will host Aces for the Arts Casino Night on April 5 from 6-10 p.m. at The Grand, 170 N. Foster Street, where residents can enjoy casino-style games and refreshments. Tickets cost $75 in advance—proceeds will benefit Alabama Dance Works and Southeast Alabama Community Theatre.  Wiregrass Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Houston County Extension warns residents after reports show mystery seed packages are showing in local mailboxes. Officials say the seeds — often labeled as coming from China — could bring invasive species or plant diseases and advise anyone who receives a package to avoid opening it and report it to local authorities.  Wiregrass Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The parking lot across from Houston County Courthouse on W. Main Street and N. Oates will permanently close on March 24 for the new City Hall, and new lots on N. Oates and E. Troy plus extra public parking have opened nearby. In the coming months, officials will add 100 more spaces on the west side of the future complex to improve downtown access.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • On Monday morning, the City of Dothan held a topping out ceremony at the Wiregrass Innovation Center; the event marked the placement of the final steel beam that completed the building's structure— a key step in creating a hub for hands-on learning in agriculture technology that will soon house HudsonAlpha Wiregrass.  WTVY
