COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Taylor residents can dispose of unwanted items using dumpsters available for two weeks starting March 24 at Taylor Ball Park and Taylor Volunteer Fire Department. Residents must leave out tires, paint, hazardous materials, or appliances—officials said this will keep the service running smoothly.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Eagle Eye Outfitters’ Change for Good initiative raised over $32k and will distribute $5,416.49 to each of six local charities — Dare to Hope, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Love in Action, The Ark, Wired Ministries and Wiregrass Hope Group — to support community programs through 2025.  Rickey Stokes News

CRIME NEWS

  • On March 18th at about 6:47 p.m. on U.S. Highway 431 near County Road 212, Henry County deputies conducted a traffic stop with K9 Rudy and seized about 30 pounds of marijuana while arresting 32-year-old Alfedan Akinlosose on drug trafficking charges with a $150,000 bond—marking the unit’s first successful operation after recent training at Dothan Police Department.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • The Henry County Sheriff’s Office congratulated K9 Rudy after he assisted deputies in a March 18 traffic stop on US Highway 431 near County Road 212, where officers seized marijuana (approx. 30lbs) and arrested 32-year-old Alfedan Akinlosose on drug trafficking charges; Rudy had completed a three month training at Dothan PD with partner Deputy LaRose and K9 Hamu with Deputy Fisher.  Rickey Stokes News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A Livestock Market report from Dothan Livestock showed that receipts rose from 433 last week to 588 this week while listing price ranges for feeder, slaughter, and replacement classes. The report also noted that a herd of 67 black and black-baldie cows with calves will be available March 24 and it honored longtime auctioneer Col. Max Kelley and Randall Baxley—while Rays Restaurant now runs the cafe on Monday.  Rickey Stokes News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Dothan Board of Education modified the superintendent hiring rule by making prior experience preferred rather than mandatory—while keeping the doctorate requirement unchanged. Some board members worry the internal debate might discourage strong candidates for the job.  Rickey Stokes News
  • Gov. Ivey signed SB116 into law today—part of her Safe Alabama public safety package—and the law empowers local enforcement to remove dangerous Glock switches from the streets.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Today, the city named a longtime Dothan civil servant its new city manager—he brings years of local experience to run government operations.  Dothan Eagle
