  • The 4-H Horse Show will take place this weekend at Landmark park as weather changes from a wet grey morning to a windy, cooler and sunny day with a much colder night. Organizers advise attendees to dress in layers—forecasted shifts in temperature mean planning ahead is important.  Rickey Stokes News
  • Ether Lee Hamilton (known as 'Big Momma') celebrated her 100th birthday on March 20 as a long-time resident of Dothan after being born in Luverne. Her family will hold a celebration for her on Saturday (March 23) to honor her life.  WTVY

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 2-year-old boy was found unresponsive in an above-ground pool behind a home in the 5300 block of Hodgesville Road on Wednesday morning around 11:00 a.m.—he was taken to Southeast Health Emergency Room where he was pronounced dead as officials continue the investigation.  Wiregrass Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • The Dothan Police Department is asking local residents to help identify a person in a picture and advises anyone with information to call 334-615-3632 or 334-793-0215 while ensuring caller privacy.  Rickey Stokes News
  • Stephen Miller, who police allege strangled his wife before reporting her missing, appeared before Judge Benjamin Lewis on Thursday to request lowering his $1.5 million bond to a range of $15,000 to $150,000 as investigators reported that her body was found under a bridge on County Road 68 on February 25 at around 7:30 p.m.; the judge is expected to decide by Friday afternoon.  WDHN
  • Houston County 911 received a call at 11:10 AM about a two-year-old who was not breathing after being found in an above ground swimming pool on Hodgesville Road and emergency crews arrived within eight minutes, but the child was pronounced dead at a Dothan hospital after CPR efforts—investigators are now examining the scene.  Rickey Stokes News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials announced that the 90-space parking lot across from the courthouse will close next week for work on the new city hall, but new parking lots—adding 128 spaces and nine ADA spots—will offer a nearly equal short walk for jurors and visitors. The design will keep pedestrians off busy intersections and provide ample parking for courthouse needs.  WTVY
  • Alabama lawmakers approved a bipartisan bill on Thursday that would give teachers and state employees up to eight weeks of maternity leave and two weeks of paternity leave after a childbirth, stillbirth or miscarriage — the measure will go to Gov. Kay Ivey next following strong bipartisan support.  Dothan Eagle
