On Saturday, March 29, the wiregrass community will gather in Ozark at 4 p.m. to honor Vietnam War veterans with Huey helicopter rides and displays that explain the aircraft's role in medical evacuations (veteran leaders Doc Holladay and Bob Cooper shared their experiences and helped plan the event).
American Legion Post 12 in Dothan is launching a fundraising campaign to secure a permanent home for its veterans with the Wiregrass Vet Walk on Friday, April 4 at 2:00 p.m. The walk will start at the Dothan Regional Airport — with local veterans, riders and community leaders gathering and hearing an announcement from Mike Schmitz, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army.
Last Thursday night, local women entrepreneurs gathered at Taj Dothan for networking & collaboration hosted by Luxe Masterminds, Wiregrass Gives & the Woman’s Powerhouse Club.
Organizer Lynette De Jesus created the event to meet the need for business support & growth among local entrepreneurs despite cold, windy weather.
Dothan City Schools students earned awards at a regional science fair, and fourteen projects will move on to state competition in early April.
Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall warned consumers to delete their 23andMe accounts after the company announced it will file for bankruptcy and a data breach in October exposed the personal information of nearly 7 million Americans.
His office said it will closely watch the bankruptcy process to ensure sensitive genetic data is protected—advising residents to act soon.
The Alabama Department of Transportation and the City of Dothan are launching a study to address growing traffic congestion along Brannon Stand Road and Alabama Highway 605 caused by new shops, schools, and homes on the west side.
A public meeting will be held at Westgate Recreation Center on April 16 to collect resident input on proposals such as road widening — officials hope this study will lead to lasting improvements.
Alabama drivers now can choose new vanity license plates including a Braves-themed plate with a retro a logo available since March 1; pre-numbered plates were sent to counties based on pre-commitment orders.
Special plates for Breast Cancer Awareness, Faulkner University, and other themes are on sale—while the planned redesign of the University of Alabama plate is postponed—with personalized orders available on demand.
