- ➤ High school sophomore Harley Davidson was crowned Miss Cottonwood on Saturday night during the National Peanut Festival Pageant. She is an honor student and active club member at Cottonwood High School, and her strong name recognition helped her win the title. WTVY
- ➤ Robert Smith Jr. from WDHN was honored on Saturday by the Coffee County NAACP with the Image Award at the 19th annual freedom fund banquet for his reporting on repeated flooding in Shiloh. His coverage brought national attention to how the community pleaded for state help but was forced to seek assistance in Washington from environmental justice advocate Dr. Robert Bullard. WDHN

- ➤ This summer, On the Dot Theatre will host Theatre Camps from June 16 to 20, July 7 to 11, and July 21 to 25 with sessions starting at 10 AM or 2 PM while The Art Circle will hold Art Camps from June 2 to 5, June 9 to 12, June 23 to 26, July 14 to 17, and July 28 to 31 with sessions at the same times. The theatre camps cost $120 and include scripts, costumes, props, set pieces, snacks, certificates, and a party — art camps cost $100 and include supplies, daily snacks, and a final-day party; registration is available at Dothanleisureservice.org. - ➤ Dothan City Schools was recognized as the top donating school district in the Wiregrass region after the 2024 fundraising campaign—ranking 11th among 85 employers and contributing more than $59,396. Wiregrass Daily News
- ➤ A bill to ban cell phones in K-12 classrooms, known as the FOCUS Act—HB166, passed the House with a vote of 79 to 15 and now heads to the Senate for final approval. If passed, schools must store phones for the entire day and set local rules by July 1 while the law takes effect at the start of the upcoming school year and allows exemptions for emergencies and health needs.
