BUSINESS NEWS

  • Circle City Brewing, a popular downtown spot, will close its doors on April 15th. The shutdown will cancel the monthly Wiregrass Blues Society gathering — a well-known local event — affecting scheduled plans.  Rickey Stokes News
  • Circle City Brewing Co.—a downtown brewery—announced on its Facebook page that it will close on April 15 and said its final week will offer the same service, food and drinks its customers have enjoyed.  WTVY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On April 5, Dothan City Schools earned strong results at the Alabama Science and Engineering Fair held at Auburn University where 16 projects advanced from regional wins and students won awards along with a chance to compete at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair in May. School leaders and teachers praised the efforts of over 200 students who competed — a record achievement underscoring the district’s commitment to science and engineering education.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Dothan City Schools was recognized as the top donating school district to the Wiregrass United Way campaign — employees supported the cause through their contributions. The recognition shows the district’s commitment to regional partnerships.  Dothan Eagle
  • Today, students from Dothan Preparatory Academy, PASS Academy, and ARC returned to school following their normal schedule. The district has continued its partnership with SpectraCare — adding extra mental health professionals on campus today and Thursday — to help staff and students cope with last week's tornado.  Wiregrass Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal tax filings for 2024 returns normally due in March or April now must be filed by May 1 while tax payments remain due on their original schedule - the IRS announced the change in October due to Hurricane Helene. Alabama state taxes are still due by April 15.  Rickey Stokes News
