CRIME NEWS

  • Dothan police arrested a 32-year-old man on April 9 for the murder of Grace Bridges, who died from a gunshot wound in a 2010 incident at Dedert’s Furniture Store after investigators reexamined evidence and reinterviewed witnesses.  Rickey Stokes News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Holly Meyers from Art in Public Places said the Loop Music and Art Festival will begin Friday, April 11th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in downtown Dothan and continue Saturday, April 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.—the event will feature eight bands, food trucks, art vendors and a mural tour while part of South Foster Street is closed to traffic for safety.  Wiregrass Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cleanup continues in Dothan after last week's tornado damaged parts of Dothan Preparatory Academy—especially along Ross Clark Circle. Students have returned to class with on-campus counseling from Spectracare as repair work on the media center, air conditioners and gym proceeds.  Wiregrass Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dothan businessman Josh Chapman, owner of Open Key Property Management, announced his candidacy for the District 4 commissioner seat ahead of Tuesday, August 5th municipal election. He said his campaign will draw on his civil engineering background and leadership in local groups — aiming to improve development after John Ferguson's 12 years in office.  WDHN

HEALTH NEWS

  • P.E.I.R. Dothan will host its Spring Into Recovery Health Fair and Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 301 W Lafayette Street—offering free haircuts, bounce houses, face painting, HIV testing and an Easter egg hunt for children, while guest speaker Jack Langdon and local recovery providers share their stories to support community wellness.  Wiregrass Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today, over 200 athletes from more than 20 schools competed at the Dothan High School track as the Dothan-Houston County Special Olympics returned after a five-year break — athletes showed their strengths. The event featured track and softball throw competitions and will help prepare competitors for the State Olympics at Troy University — another Olympic event is scheduled for April 18.  WTVY
