CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Dothan Police responded today to a firearm assault call at 12:06 a.m. at 2855 Ross Clark Circle at Crazy Monkey Bar where two vehicles sped away as subjects ran toward Barstone Apartments—one victim shot in the abdomen was intercepted en route to Southeast Health and a BOLO was issued for a suspect at 4:00 a.m. Rickey Stokes News
- ➤ Houston County 911 dispatched Ashford Rescue, Columbia Rescue, Houston County Sheriff Deputies and Kinsey Police Department to a group home at 10472 East Highway 52 in Webb where a resident cut another's throat—officials said the injury was upgraded to serious and a suspect was detained while EMS and Dothan Fire transported the injured to Southeast Health. - ➤ Miriam Shehane, a pioneer for victims' rights who died last year at 91, helped pass laws so that crime victims and their families can be in court and get notified before parole hearings + she founded VOCAL after her daughter’s murder in 1976 and her work continues to change the justice system. - ➤ The 4th Annual Loop Music & Art Festival—held last Friday and Saturday on Foster Street in Downtown—attracted a large crowd that enjoyed local art, vendors, and live music. Organizers reported the event may have exceeded last year's 1,400 visitors because of added vendors and more performance opportunities. WDHN

- ➤ On Saturday morning, residents around the Wiregrass region visited Fort Novosel’s William A. Howell Training Support Facility—normally off-limits—to view artifacts that preserve Army aviation history and inspire young soldiers. WDHN
- ➤ Today, Alabama launched the ConnectEBT app to help secure SNAP EBT accounts by allowing users to lock and unlock cards + check balances, request replacements, change PINs and review transaction history. The Department of Human Resources is investigating fraudulent activities after skimming devices compromised many accounts. Wiregrass Daily News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, Walmart recalled over 1,500 cases of Marketside Celery Sticks (1,587 cases) after a random test in Georgia found Listeria monocytogenes, though no illnesses were reported. The FDA advised consumers to discard the product, and the recall affected stores in Alabama and 27 other states. Wiregrass Daily News

- ➤ Brett Singletary, head coach of Slocomb High School’s varsity boys basketball team, announced he will step down at the end of the school year to focus on family as he and his wife expect their first child in July.
