  • New ownership finalized a deal that will keep the Big Lots store open as new owners—Gordon Brothers Retail Partners and Variety Wholesalers—take over between 200 and 400 stores including the one in Dothan. The company secured key funding and posted 'Now Hiring' signs as it plans to reopen more locations in Alabama and Florida.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • The Dothan Livestock Market report from April 14 shows weekly receipts rising from 506 to 930 with steady pricing for feeder cattle and slaughter classes. A two-herd dispersal sale will occur Friday, April 18 at 12:00 noon central time — the report also pays tribute to longtime auctioneer Col. Max Kelley and friend Randall Baxley.  Rickey Stokes News

  • Dothan Police have identified 20-year-old Katorrean Thomas as the suspect for first-degree assault after he allegedly shot a victim during an argument outside The Crazy Monkey Bar & Grill on Ross Clark Circle—officials say the victim is being treated at a local hospital.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • A suspect named Katorrean Thomas was identified in connection with a shooting at The Crazy Monkey Bar and Grill early Sunday morning when an argument turned violent and he shot a victim in the upper torso.  Rickey Stokes News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • HudsonAlpha has opened registration for summer science camps in Dothan that will let students explore DNA and learn about biotechnology. The Code of Life camp for rising 6th-9th graders will run on June 9—13 from 1 to 4 p.m. and July 7—11 from 9 a.m. to noon, while the BioSkills Genetic Engineering Level 1 camp for high school students will be held on June 16—20 at Dothan High School for $150 with limited spots available.  Wiregrass Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Kay Ivey signed Senate Bill 252 today that will help local independent pharmacies by banning PBMs from paying less than Medicaid rates for two years and from charging retroactive fees — the law also lets pharmacists talk with patients about lower-cost drugs and allows legal action if they are hurt by unfair practices.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • City officials announced that Dothan has received over $7 million in federal funds to build a multi-purpose community center next to the Wiregrass Public Safety Center on Ennis Road. City leaders thanked Senator Tommy Tuberville — who helped secure the grant — and said the design phase has begun, with the project expected to take a couple of years to complete.  WTVY
