ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Horace Gilbert, 76, drowned on Lake Eufaula Monday night when he fell while handling an anchor and did not resurface, and Houston County Sheriff's Office divers worked nearly 12 hours using underwater sonar to find his body—his family said he was an avid fisherman and active church member. - ➤ Over 600 Dothan third graders took part in a National DNA Day experiment where HudsonAlpha Wiregrass led a hands-on activity to extract DNA from strawberries—students learned about genes and how genetic information may impact future research. WTVY
- ➤ Dothan City Schools will host a job fair on Tuesday, May 13 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at its Central Office at 1665 Honeysuckle Road for certified educators and bachelor’s degree holders looking for teaching opportunities — school principals, human resources personnel and certification specialists will answer questions and explain certification pathways. - ➤ The FBI Citizens Academy in Dothan graduated its first class after a seven-week program that taught 20 citizens about FBI investigations and operations—local leaders like City Commissioners Aristotle Kirkland and John Ferguson took part and gained a greater understanding of law enforcement work. Acting Special Agent in Charge Timothy O’Malley said the experience boosted trust in law enforcement and will set the stage for future community collaborations. Rickey Stokes News
