  • Runners, walkers, and costume enthusiasts will gather on Saturday at Westgate Park for the Superhero Run to benefit The Exchange Center for Child Abuse Prevention — vendor setup is from 6:00 to 7:00 a.m., registration opens at 7:00 a.m., the 5K race starts at 8:00 a.m., and the 1-mile fun run begins at 9:00 a.m.  Wiregrass Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • The Ozark Police Department honored Deputy Taylor Peters for his role in uncovering a card skimming operation that started on March 25th when devices were found at grocery stores in Ozark—he used smart technology and real-time clues to help find suspects and dismantle the criminal network.  Wiregrass Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dothan Tech students won top honors at the Alabama SkillsUSA State Leadership Competition in Mobile from April 21–23 as Robert Williams (Graphic Arts) and Charles Hickerson (Pre-Engineering) earned gold medals and will compete at the national SkillsUSA conference in Atlanta this summer. Other Graphic Arts students received silver medals while Dothan City Schools praised instructors for their support.  Wiregrass Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A bill introduced by Rep. Mack Butler would stop SNAP dollars from buying soda if the USDA grants a waiver. Butler said the measure targets children’s health and follows similar moves in Arkansas and Indiana — though he does not expect it to pass this year.  WTVY
  • Dothan police say House Bill 224 will make loitering within 25 feet of first responders a misdemeanor if passed — a change from the original 100-foot rule — and officers will be trained on how to enforce the law while respecting free speech, though the bill may face legal challenges.  WTVY
  • Houston County Commission Chairman Brandon Shoupe announced his intention to seek reelection in 2026 after prayer and discussion with his family and supporters.
