- ➤ Today, Dothan Nurseries hosted a butterfly release for Chrysalis Home for Girls, which offers shelter, education, counseling, and life skills for girls ages 6 to 18. Families gathered inside the greenhouse to watch hundreds of butterflies take flight—symbolizing transformation and hope—while learning how to support the cause. Wiregrass Daily News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dothan High School alumna Michelle McCleod, a 2022 graduate now studying Neuroscience at the University of Alabama, received the 2025 Randall Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award for her project on the neural bases of information transfer in Autism Spectrum Disorder — she is one of 19 students recognized for her work to improve communication between autistic and non-autistic individuals. - ➤ Dothan Tech students traveled to Mobile this month to compete in the Alabama SkillsUSA Leadership Competition—Robert Williams and Charles Hickerson won gold and two graphic arts students won silver—and they will head to Atlanta in June for the national championship. WTVY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Dothan announced that N. Saint Andrews Street will be closed from E. Troy Street to the Civic Center entrance today to May 2 for a water main replacement by Dothan Utilities. The road is closed each day from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and the intersection at N. Saint Andrews Street and E. Troy Street will be closed on April 30—drivers should use caution near the construction zone. Wiregrass Daily News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Today, LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is asking local residents to donate blood in honor of National Superhero Day—donations will help local hospitals as the Dothan Donor Center hosts a drive from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with more events planned in the Wiregrass area through May 4. - ➤ District schools took part in an American Heart Association challenge to improve heart health and raised over $18,000 for local programs + the funds will help support initiatives that teach students about fitness and healthy eating. Dothan Eagle
