  • Reports indicate that both Dothan Winn-Dixie stores will close in late July to be remodeled into Aldi stores—employees are uncertain whether they will be kept on for the transition as conversion plans are still pending.  Rickey Stokes News
  • The Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. on May 5 at its facility on 102 Jamestown Blvd to kick off Small Business Week.   • On Friday afternoon at Southside Walmart, rumors of an active shooter sparked alarm when two men fought and one man pulled a gun (which was not aimed or fired), and police later confirmed the incident as a misdemeanor case of menacing and assault.  WDHN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Darinda Beacham-Dorsey, a 15-year-old from Dothan, graduated high school this year with strong support from her parents (Courtney and Dr. Ariel Dorsey) and hard work; she will attend FAMU in the fall to study pediatric medicine.   • During the Dothan Diamond Classic, Dothan Leisure Services donated over $54,000 in checks to local softball teams to support programs that rely on fundraising. Wicksburg won the tournament while Rehobeth and Opp finished second and third - 15 of the 20 teams advanced to regional play.  WTVY
