ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ At 4:50 p.m. on May 2, multiple fire and law enforcement agencies responded to a large structure fire at 1570 Bluff Springs Road in Ashford as flames engulfed the home, the roof collapsed, and thick smoke spread widely (a propane tank was found nearby and explosions were reported) while all occupants exited safely and investigators searched for the cause. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Dorsey Ryan Love, an Ashford man, pleaded not guilty to charges of strangling pageant queen Lindsay Shiver—who faces unrelated charges for allegedly plotting her husband's murder—after the alleged attack took place last summer in Dothan. WTVY
- ➤ Dothan 911 sent police and fire crews to the 1600 block of Alexander Drive at about 2:46 a.m.—the suspect fled while officials found two vehicles on fire and quickly put out the flames with no injuries reported. Wiregrass Daily News
- ➤ Investigators continue to work on eight unsolved cases in the Wiregrass area—ranging from a 1979 disappearance to a 2017 murder—and authorities urge anyone with information to contact law enforcement. WTVY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Top students from Dothan High School and Dothan City Virtual School were honored last Friday for their academic success. Patrick Muna was named valedictorian and Addison Hendrix salutatorian at Dothan High while Weston and Walton Moody were named co-valedictorians and Emma Haynie salutatorian at DCVS, and they will be celebrated at the graduation ceremony on May 15. - ➤ Twenty-five area students were honored with the Southeast Gas Community Service Scholarship for 2025 at Troy University on April 24—recognizing their community service efforts and supporting their future education. Dothan Eagle
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ A study found that margaritas in Alabama cost $6.74 on average, which is 32% less than the national price of $10.02—making them the most affordable in the country. The research also showed that Iowa averages $7.30 while prices in Florida, Georgia and Hawaii are higher. WTVY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Dothan Public Building Authority’s Board of Directors will meet on May 6th at 8:30 a.m. in the Board Room at the Dothan Civic Center at 126 N. St. Andrews Street to consider a resolution for a $68.19 million Lease Revenue Bond to finance a new city hall, annex, parking and infrastructure improvements—this includes reviewing agreements with Regions Capital Advantage, Inc. and Regions Bank.
