- ➤ Dothan police arrested Dwight Mills last year for killing his wife Sharon—23 years after her death and alleged Florida dumping—while his attorney filed a motion on Thursday asking a Houston County judge to drop the murder and corpse abuse charges using a letter that stated her autopsy showed no evidence of trauma. - ➤ Jill Scott, a three-time Grammy award winner and actress, will perform at the Dothan Civic Center on Friday, June 27. Tickets go on sale on Tuesday, May 13 at 10 a.m. + her show will feature hits from a 25-year music career. WTVY

- ➤ Students earned a total of $25,000 in scholarships for school attendance from the Mike Schmitz Automotive Group Academic Challenge — a contest that rewarded academic effort — after showing strong performance in the competition. Dothan Eagle
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Alabama Department of Human Resources and the Alabama State Department of Education announced the SUN Bucks program, which will give a one-time $120 grocery benefit per eligible school-aged child to help families during the summer when school meals are not offered. Families have until August 15 to apply and benefits will be available starting in June at grocery stores, farmers’ markets, and online retailers. Wiregrass Daily News

- ➤ Vanessa Howell, coach of ESCC women's volleyball, started the team in 2022 and led it to win the Alabama Community College championship in November 2024. She is recruiting players from across the Wiregrass area as the team prepares for national tournaments and fall season play. Dothan Eagle
