ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday, tornadoes struck Holmes and Geneva counties, uprooting trees and damaging homes—debris blocked several highways in Holmes County and several people were injured in the Bethlehem, Esto, and Winterville areas—while a snapped palm tree hit a home in Geneva County. WDHN
- ➤ A wreck involving a semi and a passenger vehicle occurred Saturday morning in eastern Houston County near Gordon on U.S. 84 and County Road 95—first responders from several agencies arrived and closed part of the highway due to critical injuries. WTVY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Graduates from Wallace Community College and ACOM will walk across the stage to receive their degrees later in 2025. The ceremony will highlight the achievements of local students from the Wiregrass region—an important milestone in education for our community. Dothan Eagle
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Severe thunderstorms pounded the Wiregrass on May 10, causing thousands to lose power in Florida—2,867 in Jackson County, 1,438 in Walton County, and 587 in Washington County—while Dothan Utilities reported one outage. WDHN
- ➤ Meteorologists forecast an above-average hurricane season with 17 named storms, nine hurricanes, and four major hurricanes as the Atlantic runs from June 1 to November 30. Residents are urged to prepare evacuation plans, secure their homes, and build disaster kits for potential flooding and wind damage — following Hurricane Preparedness Week held from May 4 to May 10.
