  • The ComfortCALLS program, launched by local volunteers in October 2024 to help seniors in the Wiregrass area, has completed over 1,075 calls as of April 30. Seniors who want a check-in may call (211 or 3348361963) Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Wiregrass Daily News

  • The Southern Bone & Joint Specialists Foundation announced the 2025 scholarships to 15 high school seniors from 11 Wiregrass schools — honoring academic excellence, leadership, and community service.   • Alabama Rep. Drummond’s HB8 regulating e-cigarettes and vaping devices passed lawmakers after three years of debate and is now on Gov. Ivey’s desk, raising concerns among convenience store owners over limits on flavored products — the bill also includes measures banning sales from vending machines and requiring vaping education in schools to reduce youth access.  Wiregrass Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Publix has initiated a voluntary recall of GreenWise baby food pouches due to potential lead contamination following routine sampling and FDA input. The recall covers four flavors (Pear, Kiwi, Spinach, Pea) sold in 4-ounce pouches with a best-used-by date of November 1st, and no illness has been reported while customers may return the product for a refund.  WTVY
