  • Dothan City Animal Shelter introduced Rachel, a two-year-old cat that loves cuddles and exploring, and she is spayed + ready to find a forever home with a family that matches her active spirit.  WTVY

CRIME NEWS

  • At 1:22 p.m. today on the 200 block of Waynesboro Way, authorities responded to an edged weapon assault in which a person was stabbed in the head with a screwdriver–the suspect is in custody and Dothan Fire reported no transport for the victim.  Rickey Stokes News
  • Dwight Mills is accused of killing his wife, Sharon, over twenty years ago and dumping her body in a ditch in Florida; his case may be dismissed and his defense team disputes the evidence—Sharon’s daughter, enraged by the move, vows to keep fighting for justice as a hearing is set for two weeks.  WDHN
  • Houston County deputies responded Tuesday to a shooting on Sandbed Road in Wicksburg which led to a lockdown at Wicksburg High School as a suspect fled, and officials later said the person reporting the incident has a mental disease and is now in custody.  Wiregrass Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two Dothan Tech students—10th grader Gregory Helms and 11th grader Julia Batts—won first place in the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board’s statewide video contest on alcohol awareness and will share a $300 prize. Their video, created in the Graphic Arts program, raised awareness about the dangers of underage drinking and earned praise from the school superintendent.  Wiregrass Daily News

  • EBT card users in Alabama can now lock or unlock their cards and sign up for account alerts via the ConnectEBT app and website — the update helps stop scams in stores and online.  WDHN
  • Houston County DHR is recruiting foster parents — the agency will offer a ten-week training course for anyone interested. More details on the training schedule will be provided soon.  WTVY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ten senior athletes from Dothan High signed letters of intent to play college sports in a ceremony attended by family, friends, and coaches. The event highlighted key commitments—Irma Montiel to Huntingdon College and Kade Sanders, an injured pitcher, to Chattahoochee Valley—along with other signings in soccer and basketball.  Wiregrass Daily News
