  • The Dothan Municipal Court and community partners are hosting a free Community Advocacy Day on Tuesday, June 24, from 2:00 to 7:00 at the Dothan City Civic Center and are inviting vendors to join the event—call Stephanie Harden at 334-615-3000 Ext. 4162 for booth applications—while offering door prizes and one-on-one meetings with local service groups.  Wiregrass Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities are searching the Wiregrass area for Emmett Sigers, an inmate (21-year-old) who escaped from the Elba Community-Based Facility work camp on May 15 at 1:00 a.m. and officials urge anyone with information to contact local law enforcement.  WDHN

CULTURE NEWS

  • Art in Public Places announced that muralist Wes Hardin will paint a new mural at the BLP building on Main Street and Cherokee Avenue—celebrating the Press Thornton Future Masters Golf Tournament held at the Dothan County Club. The project is set to begin in fall as part of the organization’s effort to bring art to everyday spaces.  Rickey Stokes News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Kathy Murphy was approved as the new president of Wallace Community College in Dothan during the monthly meeting of the Alabama Community College System—she led Gadsden State since January 2021 and brings over 30 years of education experience.  WDHN
  • Dr. Kathy Murphy was picked as the new president of Wallace Community College in Dothan. Chancellor Jimmy H. Baker recommended her and the Alabama Community College System Board approved the pick yesterday, and she will start on June 1.  WTVY

HEALTH NEWS

  • After an inmate died last year from health issues, Sheriff Donald Valenza has equipped Houston County Jail with 15 sensors from 4Sight Labs—costing about $50,000—to track inmates’ vital signs on their wrists or ankles so staff can quickly respond to changes, following a similar success in Shelby County.  Rickey Stokes News
