- ➤ Dothan Housing will hold a free food distribution event on May 21 at 11:30 a.m. at the Michael C. Patton Event Center on Montana Street in Dothan; fresh produce and canned goods will be provided and participants are asked to bring a bag to carry their groceries. Wiregrass Daily News
- ➤ Today, Landmark Park hosts its annual Touch a Truck event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. where families can explore over 30 vehicles including fire trucks, cranes, tractors and police cars—a special quiet hour is set from 10 to 11 a.m. for children with sensory needs. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, military members and public servants, $6 for kids, with free entry for children 2 and under. Wiregrass Daily News

- ➤ A 64-year-old Midland City man died Thursday night in a four-vehicle wreck on U.S. 231 + Dale County Highway 10 when paramedics rushed him to a Dothan hospital. WTVY

- ➤ The paper mill will close on August 1+ local business workers and truck loggers warn that the shutdown will hit Cedar Springs hard by lowering daily spending and possibly increasing property taxes, which could worsen the local economy. WDHN
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ New data from United for ALICE shows that 46% of households statewide are struggling to pay for basic needs, with 16% living below poverty and 30% classified as ALICE. United Ways of Alabama will host a webinar on June 26 at 1 p.m.—to discuss how to better support these families. Wiregrass Daily News

- ➤ Dothan’s Justise Black, director of Grants and Homelessness Initiatives at Dothan Housing, announced his candidacy for District 2 on the city school board — he seeks to replace Dr. Franklin Jones. - ➤ Lily McDaniel has been named as the new Executive Director of Main Street Enterprise — the city’s downtown revitalization program affiliated with Main Street Alabama. She will lead efforts to boost local business and community projects. Dothan Eagle
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Dothan advocates say that proposed cuts to a $56 million grant for Narcan training and use may make it harder for first responders to help during overdoses—overdoses still happen in our community. Jonathan Riley from People Engaged in Recovery in Dothan warned that reduced funds will limit access to the life-saving drug and its training during emergencies—people will remain at risk. WDHN
