ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle occurred around 4:44 p.m. Friday on Highway 84 East near Cowarts as emergency crews—including Cowarts Volunteer Fire, Ashford Rescue, Houston County Sheriff’s Office, ALEA Troopers, and Dothan Fire—responded and took two injured people to the hospital. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Kathy Murphy, president of Gadsden State Community College, will become the new president of Wallace Community College in Dothan on June 1 — she succeeds Dr. Linda C. Young who retired. Dothan Eagle
- ➤ Wallace Community College is starting its first Residential Construction Academy in Dothan this summer to teach construction skills, with a Carpentry Helper course from July 21 to 24 and an Electrical Helper course from July 28 to 31. Students must finish online lessons one week before each course (local homebuilders will interview them on the last night of training to connect them with new jobs). Wiregrass Daily News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dothan commissioners will vote Tuesday to fund a $6.4 million pickleball complex planned for Rip Hewes Stadium property with 25 courts. Lewis Construction Company will bid on the project while Visit Dothan (adding $1.5 million) and Houston County (contributing $200,000) will support the plan. WTVY
