COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Friends of the Dothan Houston County Library System run a store open twice a week at 1324 Westgate Parkway where books, DVDs, CDs, and other learning items are sold at low prices (hardcovers for two dollars, paperbacks for one, and children’s books for fifty cents). The store offers a different selection every Tuesday and Thursday.  WTVY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Qualico Steel Company is hosting an onsite job fair in Webb to connect local job seekers with employment opportunities. The event will offer on-site interviews for those interested in available positions.  WTVY
  • The Dothan livestock market saw receipts jump to 804 this week from 409 last week while prices for feeders, heifers, and slaughter cattle remained steady—farmers report strong buyer interest and firm demand across classes. Replacement cattle prices and ranges for fed cattle also stayed in line with market activity.  Rickey Stokes News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dothan Tech students partnered with the Wiregrass Museum of Art and local groups to create the public artwork 'Celestial Haven'—an installation at 1053 E Selma Street that gave them hands-on experience in design, engineering, and construction. The project began last fall and will remain in place for one to three years—supported by funding from several art and community organizations.  Wiregrass Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dothan City Schools recognized Rafael Algarin as Employee of the Month for May at Carver 9th Grade Academy - he was honored with a plaque, certificate, and $50 gift card for his kind support in helping Spanish-speaking students and maintaining a clean, welcoming environment.  Wiregrass Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Dothan City Commission approved over $6 million in funds to build a new pickleball complex with 25 covered courts, including one championship court—City Manager Randy Morris said the project will boost daily play and attract large tournaments with Houston County contributing $200,000 from lodging tax funds. Construction is set to begin in June and will finish by early spring.  Rickey Stokes News
  • The Dothan City Commission approved a $301,775 contract with APAC Alabama Inc.—to demolish the former Dothan Eagle printing building at North Oak and Troy Street, which will clear the way for new city hall annex development. Public safety lane closures are expected during a demolition period of 21 to 30 days and the commission will set a start date by the end of July.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Candidates have begun raising funds for the Alabama primary elections and can now accept contributions for campaigns before the primary on May 19th, 2026. Voters will choose statewide constitutional officers including a new governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general (current incumbents cannot run due to term limits).  WTVY
