  • On May 18, Jeremy Jamon Coleman died in Dothan. Houston County will soon launch the PulsePoint app to alert CPR-trained citizens, Holmes County moved its volunteer fire departments to the sheriff's office, Benjamin McCardle was honored for passing Advanced EMT exam, and Ashford Rescue reopened hiring for two full‑time spots.  Rickey Stokes News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The new theatre education and rehearsal facility at 251 S. Foster Street is under construction downtown and will open by summer 2027. It is a $3 million project funded partly by a $750,000 state appropriation and community donations — a key step in expanding local arts access.  Wiregrass Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local drivers face the highest gas prices in four years this Memorial Day as rising pump costs affect daily commutes. Petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan said prices will take up to a year to return to prewar levels + small relief may occur when international supplies improve.  WTVY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dothan City Schools rescheduled its special board meeting originally set for today to May 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Office on 1665 Honeysuckle Road, where officials will hold an executive session to address personnel recommendations.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Dale County Sheriff’s Office will launch the S.T.A.R. Program to train kids ages 11 to 12 on first responder roles and basic safety. The program will run from June 29 to July 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with shifting venues and costs ($20).  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Northside High School was named an Apple Distinguished School for its strong computer education – the honor was given just before the end of the school year.  Dothan Eagle

  • Trinette Stanford (League of Women Voters) discussed low voter turnout and urged local residents to boost participation during a report on Thursday, May 21. Her remarks highlighted the opportunity for the community to strengthen its voting power.  WTVY

  • On May 21, 2026, Jordyn Longworth, a doula in our community, explained how her support benefits new families during childbirth (segment aired at 1:39 p.m.).  WTVY
  • Walmart has recalled several toys today after safety concerns including asbestos in Orb Funkee Squeeze Toys and dangerous magnets in Grtard Magnetic Stick Figure Sets. Consumers are urged to stop using these items and follow return or disposal guidelines from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.  Wiregrass Daily News
