- ➤ Today, a ribbon-cutting opened the new ALFA Event Center reception hall at the National Peanut Festival fairgrounds, adding over 24,000 square feet of event space and a commercial prep kitchen that can serve up to 1,000 guests — event organizers can now reserve the venue along with its 200 acres of land, over 4,000 paved parking spaces, and additional indoor and outdoor facilities for year-round events. - ➤ Officials are warning that as summer weather heats up and lakes, rivers, and coastal spots expect more boat traffic over Memorial Day weekend and beyond, everyone on the water should wear a life jacket at all times — national data shows drowning is the leading cause of most boating fatalities. - ➤ Lifesouth is hosting a weeklong blood drive that runs through Memorial Day weekend, offering a $25 eGift card and a free t-shirt to all donors. Dothan donors can visit the local donor center—open daily with extended hours—and also attend events at other regional sites such as Walmart, churches, and colleges. Wiregrass Daily News
- ➤ As warm weather settles over the Wiregrass, ADPH advises residents to remove standing water & use EPA-approved insect repellent to lower the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses such as West Nile virus, Eastern equine encephalitis, St. Louis encephalitis, and La Crosse virus.
