- ➤ The 2025 National Peanut Festival will run from October 31 to November 9 with a parade scheduled on October 25 that begins on East Main Street and ends at West Main and Park—parade disbanding will take place at First Baptist Church with road closures in effect. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Alabama’s new vaping law went into effect June 1 and requires e-cigarette products to be made in the United States, limiting convenience stores to 34 FDA-approved tobacco and menthol flavors. Retailers with a specialty permit may sell additional products only to buyers 21 and older—while local boards of education must adopt a state model program to prevent youth use. WTVY
- ➤ City Clerk Wendy Shiver reminded candidates this morning about the city rules for political signs ahead of municipal elections in August. The guidelines allow one sign per candidate on nonresidential street frontage and ban signs on public rights-of-way, trees or buildings while police will remove any signs that break these rules for seven days. - ➤ Houston County officials warn that even on mild summer days, a car's interior can heat up dangerously fast, having caused 33 child deaths (since 1998) in Alabama and 4 deaths so far in 2025.
