- ➤ The Dothan Kiwanis Club hosted its annual Golf Classic charity event at Highland Oaks on Thursday, drawing more than one hundred golfers from 26 teams while raising over $37,000 to support local children’s charities — half of which will fund a new facility planned by the Alabama Sheriffs Youth Ranches in Houston County. - ➤ Families across the Wiregrass will visit the 2nd Annual Wild Ozark event starting June 9 at the Ozark Civic Center where live animal shows and hands-on educational sessions will run each day until June 13—Friday features free shows by the Auburn University Raptor Program at 9 and 10 a.m. Wiregrass Daily News

- ➤ Bill Ferguson and his family converted four old chicken houses on their 600-acre farm in Echo into pesticide-free hydroponic greenhouses that now supply fresh lettuce to local stores. He said the two-year project will soon expand to include more vegetables for local schools as part of the Farm-to-School program — setting a new example for innovative farming in the area. - ➤ Dothan has five finalists for a new school superintendent, including longtime teachers Dr. Donnie Chambers—who spent nearly 20 years in local schools—and Dothan native Dr. Charles Corbett; the Board of Education will interview the candidates in the coming weeks and plans to name a successor for retiring Dr. Dennis Coe this summer. - ➤ J.T. Carroll—a Marine Corps veteran and father—announced his candidacy for the Dothan City Schools Board of Education District 5 race. He says he will work to help students learn and keep good teachers in classrooms and asks voters to support his plan on August 5th. Rickey Stokes News
- ➤ The Fort Novosel-Wiregrass AUSA Chapter awarded $18,200 in scholarships to 15 area students — a move that supports their future education plans. Dothan Eagle
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Dothan Housing Authority will open its online waitlist for the Wiregrass Regional Housing Choice Voucher Program Monday, June 9 at 8:00 a.m. CST and it will remain open until Thursday, June 12 at 5:30 p.m. CST for eligible families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities to find affordable housing - those needing special accommodations should call 334-794-6713 before the program begins. - ➤ Alabama lawmakers approved a measure that cuts the state sales tax on food from 3% to 2% starting in September. The law also gives local governments the freedom to lower their own grocery tax rates further — a change aimed at easing costs for families. Wiregrass Daily News
- ➤ The City of Dothan will hold a municipal election on August 5 for Mayor, Associate Commissioners, and the City Schools Board with polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The candidate qualifying period runs from June 3 until 5:00 p.m. on June 24 (candidate packets are available at the City Clerk’s office).
