CRIME NEWS

  • Dothan police are seeking two runaway sisters as 15-year-old Destiny Jakia Powell was last seen at 9:30 p.m. on June 4 near Astor Court and 17-year-old D’Miya Janelle Powell was seen around noon on June 5 near Gibbs Circle in Montgomery (she is with her toddler son).  Wiregrass Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • After several years of work and $17 million in upgrades, the new Dothan Opera House opened with better seating, an updated stage, and unseen behind-the-scenes changes—promising more than just opera. Nearly 20 acts are scheduled to perform, and a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held Tuesday to introduce the venue to the community.  WDHN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Dothan City Early Head Start program is accepting applications for the upcoming year and invites families with children from birth to age three and expectant mothers to apply for free early childhood education, health services plus family support. Applicants must live in the city, meet federal income guidelines, and pick up forms at the Board of Education Head Start office at 2999 Ross Clark Circle or call 334 794-1440 during business hours.  Wiregrass Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Two Level Plains Police Officers were honored for saving lives during a vehicle accident on Highway 84. The award shows their brave service to the community.  Dothan Eagle
  • Dothan officials are warning residents to be cautious of unsolicited water testing kits or offers that are not connected with Dothan Utilities + testing is done only by trained staff under strict ADEM and EPA guidelines. HEALTH NEWS

  • The Christian Mission’s New Life Recovery Program and BBS Fitness Exercising Faith will host the Run With Purpose 5K on June 28 at Bates Memorial Stadium in Enterprise. Participants will register for a $30 fee through June 27 and receive a race t-shirt if they sign up by June 13—proceeds will support recovery services and honor local lives lost to addiction.  Wiregrass Daily News
