  • A raffle fundraiser is underway in Dothan to support the Herring Houses and features a summer prize package valued at over $250—tickets cost $10 each or $25 for three and are sold at 101 N. Herring Street with cash or credit card payments. The winner will be announced on June 16.  Wiregrass Daily News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 6:54 a.m., Dothan 911 dispatched police, Fire Engine 2—Lakewood and Pilcher Ambulance to Timbers and Ross Clark Circle after a pedestrian versus bicycle accident; the victim, found in a ditch, received a trauma alert and was taken to Southeast Health as police investigate the hit and run.  Rickey Stokes News

CRIME NEWS

  • Tawanda Renea Lewis, a 42-year-old from Montgomery, was arrested in Houston County on June 12th on suspicion of organized retail theft and now faces a felony charge with bond set at $30,000—she is scheduled for arraignment on July 9th at 1:30 p.m. and a jury trial on September 22 at 8:30 a.m.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Ariton resident Annie Huffstutler was arrested early Saturday for allegedly shooting her husband, Shawn Watson, while he slept in their home — authorities confirmed that five children were present during the incident.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • At 2:35 a.m. today, Dale County Sheriff Deputies responded to a domestic dispute in the 1000 block of West Main Street in Ariton where a firearm assault resulted in one death—and Sheriff Mason Bynum and Coroner John Cawley are investigating the case.  Rickey Stokes News
  • Officers rushed to Lake Street in Dothan a few minutes before 10 on Saturday after gunfire wounded two people — one victim was taken by an acquaintance to a hospital — and police secured the area along Lake Street and Bayshore Avenue with crime tape as no arrests have been made.  WTVY

  • The Crossing at Big Creek Brewery in Dothan will host an Open Mic Night on June 18 at 7 p.m. Local artists can register to perform until Monday, June 16 while families and friends prepare to enjoy free live music and diverse performances.  Wiregrass Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A study by iSeeCars shows that Dothan drivers put many more miles on certain cars than drivers in other areas, with the Chevrolet Malibu reaching 23,470 miles a year. The study also found the Mitsubishi Mirage is the cheapest to drive at $1,119 per 1,000 miles—making it a cost-effective choice for local motorists.  WTVY

  • R.I.S.E. will host a free financial literacy event at the Izell Reese Center at 900 Sixth Ave on Saturday, June 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.—young adults aged 15 to 25 can join hands-on workshops on budgeting, credit, debt management, and basic investment strategies while receiving free food and giveaways.  Wiregrass Daily News
