COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Dothan will host Community Advocacy Day at the Dothan Civic Center from 2 pm to 7 pm on June 24 to support residents facing substance abuse, mental health issues, and reentry challenges. More than 50 vendors will provide treatment, counseling, housing assistance, and other services—along with live music and face painting for kids—to help those in need.  Wiregrass Daily News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Daleville man died when his motorcycle collided with an 18-wheeler log truck near a rest area on U.S. 231 south of Ozark Monday morning—Joseph Lee Muccio, 37, was identified by county officials—while the Highway Patrol investigates the wreck.  WTVY

CRIME NEWS

  • A Houston County man was arrested on June 15 after allegedly setting a mobile home on fire in Ashford—39-year-old Joshua Drew Ingle now faces charges of second degree arson, third degree arson, and first degree criminal mischief with a total bond of $51,000 as fire crews worked to protect a nearby trailer where an elderly woman was asleep.  Wiregrass Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Thomas Jones, known as T.D. Jones, served as Enterprise police chief for 22 years and died of cancer over the weekend. He retired in 2020 and once said that the tornado which struck Enterprise High School in March 2007 was his worst day ever — eight students lost their lives.  WDHN
  • Today, Attorney General Steve Marshall signed on to a $7.4 billion Purdue Pharma settlement with the Sackler family—Alabama will receive up to $75 million over the next 15 years to support addiction treatment programs. The agreement, which ends Sackler control of Purdue, now awaits bankruptcy court approval.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Mark Saliba announced he will run again for Dothan's mayoral seat during his downtown reelection kickoff—he said his drive comes from a desire to see more city growth. Saliba won his first term in 2017 and if he wins on August 5 he could become the longest-serving mayor in Dothan.  WDHN
