  • Henry County Extension Director Jimmy Jones explained what visitors can see at Headland Square’s farmer's market—where local vendors display fresh produce—and stressed that shopping local helps boost the community.  WTVY
  • On July 5, the Dothan Dragons will host Wiregrass United Way Night by partnering with Ill Eagle Fireworks to collect donations for 40 United Way partner agencies across six counties. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the game starts at 7:00 p.m. — the event aims to bring the community together.  WTVY

  • Today, Dothan’s Engineering Group of The Southeast Company cut the ribbon at their new location on North Foster St with the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce present. Owner Curt Downey said the firm has produced 33-million dollars in salaries since 2006 and brings a lot of money to the Wiregrass region (showing its growing impact).  WDHN

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities dismantled a human trafficking conspiracy that spanned the Florida Panhandle and southern Alabama after 49-year-old Dothan resident Chad Cornelius Seymore and his Gulfport associate, 47-year-old Kimberly Robinson Gandy, were charged with trafficking women using force and abuse—Seymore is set for sentencing on August 15 at 2 p.m. while Gandy will be sentenced on September 15 at 1:30 p.m.  WDHN
  • A Dothan family is heartbroken after neighbor Vincent Phillips fatally shot beloved mother Brittney Henderson on her back porch—police arrested Phillips for capital murder while investigators search for a motive.  WDHN
  • Dothan police reported 18-year-old Jamebreyana E. Norman missing after she was last seen on the 200 block of Emmons Drive wearing a black hoodie, shorts, and a pink hat while driving a gold 2005 Toyota Sequoia in Midfield—anyone with information should contact police immediately.  WDHN

  • The Ordinary People Society is hosting a Juneteenth Block Party today to mark the holiday with local residents invited to attend.  WTVY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Wiregrass Peanut Project reached a milestone when seedlings grown in local classrooms were sent to the Kathy L. Chan Greenhouse on HudsonAlpha’s Huntsville campus to be crossbred into hardier peanut varieties—designed to resist disease and drought. Dr. Josh Clevenger and his team will use the student-identified traits in controlled trials to boost local agricultural innovation.  Wiregrass Daily News
