COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Town of Rehobeth will host Red, White, and Boom on Saturday with fireworks, food, live entertainment (and more) planned to bring local residents together.  WTVY
  • Communities along Wiregrass will mark the Fourth of July with parades, music and fireworks over several days this week. Events include Fort Rucker Freedom Fest on June 27 with Walker Hayes, a Red White Boom celebration on June 28 at a high school stadium, a fireworks show in New Brockton on June 29, a celebration in Elba on July 3 and more gatherings in Headland, Dothan, Level Plains and at Rip Hewes Stadium.  Dothan Eagle

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A lightning strike caused a house fire on Woodleigh Drive near Flowers Chapel Road in Dothan on Wednesday night—one person was sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation and no other injuries were reported as the fire was contained shortly after 10:00 p.m.  WDHN

CRIME NEWS

  • State agents raided retail stores in Troy and Enterprise on Monday for selling smokable hemp that may have too much THC, which violates state law, while business owners and customers voiced concern ahead of the July 1 law change.  WTVY
  • On June 24, Dothan police searched a house on West Newton Street and arrested 33-year-old Javon Antonio James—facing multiple drug charges—after they found 17 grams of fentanyl-laced pills, 22 grams of cocaine, 53 grams of meth, MDMA, one ounce of marijuana, three guns, drug packaging, and about $1,000 in cash as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation.  WDHN
  • On June 24, 2025, the Dothan Police Department Narcotics Division executed a search warrant at a residence in the 700 block of West Newton Street (part of an ongoing narcotics investigation) where officers seized about 17 grams of fentanyl-laced pills, 22 grams of cocaine, 53 grams of methamphetamine and MDMA, 1 ounce of marijuana, 1.5 ounces of an unknown substance, three firearms (one reported stolen), a stolen vehicle and $1,000, and arrested Javon Antonio James who now faces multiple charges.  Rickey Stokes News

  • Lee Jacobs was named Acting Superintendent of Dothan Schools by the City Board of Education during Tuesday’s meeting to maintain leadership continuity as the board searches for a permanent successor to retiring Dr. Dennis Coe + Jacobs, a Dothan graduate with 21 years of district experience, said she will support staff and improve education for all students.  Wiregrass Daily News

  • Council candidate Trace Watson—running for Seat 5 on Cowarts Town Council—plans to work with Houston County to bring more resources and attract new businesses. He will hold regular town hall meetings—ensuring government transparency and community involvement.  Wiregrass Daily News

  • Tomorrow, the one blood 'Give For Life' blood drive RV will stop at Guthrie’s on John D. Odom Road in Dothan from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.—donors will receive a $20 eGift card, trucker hat, and wellness checkup—and the event honors local cancer warrior Jenny Kelment and former community leader Pam Miles, who died last year.  WDHN
