CULTURE NEWS

  • The 151st Army Band and Tri-State Community Choir will present a patriotic music concert at Covenant Methodist Church in Dothan this weekend — the program features songs that salute God and country including music by John Phillip Sousa and a special piece by Houston Academy teacher James Holmes.  WTVY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On August 5, the popular Beyond the Bell after-school program returns to Dothan offering arts, crafts, educational activities and active recreation for children ages 6 to 12; transportation from several schools and a $60 monthly fee are part of the plan—parents should register early as spots are limited.  Wiregrass Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A statewide road show brought assistive technology to Dothan this week to help people with disabilities through the Accessing Potential Through Assistive Technology program—offering equipment loans and hands‐on demos. The program will partner with the State Department of Special Education Services—launching a lending library for schools to get these tools faster.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • On June 26, the 20th Judicial Circuit recorded a range of cases including civil, criminal and small claims filings in Houston and Henry Counties that were handled by several judges. The docket detailed actions for child support, contempt, paternity, contract disputes and account collections—reflecting a busy day in the courts.  Rickey Stokes News
  • The City of Dothan is demolishing the Dothan Eagle building on North Oates and Troy Street as part of a master plan from 2022 after shifting printing operations to Opelika and moving its offices to the Wells Fargo Building—changes that led to staff cuts and fewer printing days.  Rickey Stokes News
