- ➤ The pond at Eastgate Park is closed from 7:00 p.m. on July 16 until it reopens at 6:00 a.m. on July 21 because Dothan Leisure Services is hosting events to support youth fishing — visitors should plan accordingly. WTVY
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ The Crossing at Big Creek received a BrewPub license on Monday, letting it move ahead with plans to build a new brewery that will add to its six locally brewed beers—construction will begin early in 2026 and a winery is planned for 2029. WTVY
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Dothan prosecutors said Minh Thanh Nguyen—accused of sodomizing and murdering his ex-girlfriend’s 17-year-old daughter, Duong Thi Thuy Truong—could face the death penalty if convicted, though a trial date has not yet been set. WDHN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A redesignation ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at 9 a.m. at the U.S. Army Aviation Museum in Dale County where the base—formerly known as Fort Novosel—will be renamed Fort Rucker to honor Capt. Edward W. Rucker, a World War I aviator noted for his combat service. A descendant of the former namesake has voiced disapproval of the name change as it marks the second renaming in two years. - ➤ ADVA Director Brandon Miller said the department is finalizing a timeline for repairs at the Command Sgt. Maj. Bennie G. Adkins State Veterans Home in Enterprise and will notify families this week when evacuated veterans may return after the April 16 fire—most veterans remain at the Enterprise Health and Rehabilitation Center.
