  • The Savoy Jones Benefit Foundation donated $10,000 to Jeep Sullivan’s Wounded Warriors Outdoors Adventures to help veterans and honor local athlete Savoy Jones—whose loss has led his family to support programs that can reduce veteran suicide. The foundation will cut checks to Nate Patterson and Time Youth next week to show veterans they are not forgotten.  WDHN
  • Dothan nonprofit B.R.A.V.E.—Battle Buddies Ready to Assist Veterans Everywhere—is asking residents to donate unused vehicles to help support veterans. Donated cars, trucks or other vehicles can be fixed or scrapped with funds going to veteran assistance programs and donors must have a clean title to get a tax receipt.  Wiregrass Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • Dothan police used their Special Response Team in an early morning operation to execute search warrants and take several suspects into custody—officials say some may be linked to recent vehicle break-ins and more details will come after interviews.  WTVY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Families are invited to join Houston County Master Gardeners at Landmark Park's Stokes Barn on July 17 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for a bat-themed educational event that explains how bats help our environment—regular park admission covers the session—providing a free, hands-on learning experience.  Wiregrass Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • RSN checked campaign finance rules for Dothan candidates as House Bill 156 removed report requirements for those who did not spend or receive $1000—15 candidates have no committee or reports and 3 have filed committees but are behind on reports with elections only 22 days away.  Rickey Stokes News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A local car and audio show to support mental health and substance abuse services will be held in Ozark on Aug. 16 at the Farmers Home Furniture parking lot on U.S. Highway 231—registration begins at 10 a.m. with a $20 fee, and the event will feature various vehicle classes including antique bikes, classic and modern cars, trucks, SUVs, and a special muscle car category from 1964—1982.  Wiregrass Daily News
