  • On July 17, community members honored Congressman John Lewis with a march that began at 10 a.m. at the TOPS Empowerment Center and led to North Highland Baptist Church, & a pancake breakfast by Chef Kym celebrated his legacy of nonviolent civil rights work.  WDHN
  • My Black is Golden will host a voters day party & Sunday Sips event on August 3 at Mural City Coffee Company, inviting local residents to join a celebration of voter engagement.  WTVY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jillian Kemp is running for Dothan City School Board District Three and said she will work to support students and teachers by updating older school buildings and ensuring all schools get fair resources as the student body grows - she aims to build a more inclusive school community.  Wiregrass Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On July 18, 2025, Houston County courts held initial appearances and processed civil+criminal cases including family matters via TV from the jail, while Henry County had no docket available. Judges Benjamin Lewis, Lori Collier Ingram, and Kevin Moulton managed a busy schedule of cases for that day.  Rickey Stokes News

  • Troy University held its annual women's football clinic where participants learned to try on equipment, watch film, learn formations, and work out like players.  WTVY
