BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dothan Livestock and Auction released its market report on July 29 showing that receipts fell from 835 last week to 648 and that prices ranged from $316 to $515 for feeder classes and $295 to $525 for heifers—indicating a steady market with slightly higher trading for calves and feeder cattle.  Rickey Stokes News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Governor Ivey announced on Monday that nearly $26 million has been allocated statewide for industrial and infrastructure projects as part of the 2025 Growing Alabama program — this funding includes $3.26 million for the Houston County Distribution Park managed by the Dothan Industrial Development Board. The investment will help build jobs and boost business growth in communities across Alabama.  WTVY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Enterprise State Community College’s Student Support Services program was awarded a $2.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to fund tutoring, counseling and workshops at its Enterprise and Ozark campuses. The grant will support at least 275 students each semester—helping those from underrepresented backgrounds—and allow the program to provide services for the next five years.  WDHN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Houston County EMA partnered with the Southeast Alabama Council on the Homeless to open cooling stations today at Dothan Harbor Church — 320 N. Foster Street in Dothan, Cottonwood Community Church — 1331 Metcalf Street in Cottonwood and Kinsey Senior Center — 6899 Walden Drive in Kinsey to help residents beat dangerous heat. Officials say city recreation centers remain open as temporary shelters and advise everyone to drink water and take breaks outdoors.  WDHN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Candidates for Dothan’s mayor, commission seats and school board head gathered for a live debate hosted by Wiregrass Daily News at the Durden Sign Museum near Landmark Park. Each candidate gets 90 seconds to answer moderator questions—no opportunities for rebuttals.  WDHN

HEALTH NEWS

  • SOS Support Group+ meets every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the P.E.I.R. Recovery Community Center on 1930 Wise Drive to offer local families a safe space for sharing experiences and support when a loved one struggles with addiction.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Southeast Health in Dothan was named a Regional Best Hospital by U.S. News & World Report for 2025–2026—placing it among the top 13% out of nearly 4,400 hospitals nationwide. The award, based on mortality rates, preventable complications, and nursing care levels, was announced during a celebration on campus and comes with recognition as High Performing in 11 specialty areas.  Wiregrass Daily News
