COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local vendors are invited to join the Doggie Dip fundraiser at Water World on Sept. 6 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.—the event supports Wiregrass Spay & Neuter and Wiregrass Pet Rescue & Adoption. Vendors must pay a $50 fee by Aug. 24 and RSVP by Aug. 22 to secure a covered setup with table, two chairs, and two free dog tickets.  Wiregrass Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • Dothan Police are asking the public for help locating nine individuals wanted on outstanding warrants related to domestic violence and failure to register as sex offenders — all charges are allegations and each person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Dothan police arrested two men on Wednesday morning during a search warrant on Hamilton Street that recovered drugs, cash, and paraphernalia—one of the men, Terrance Matthews, is also wanted out of Texas for murder and faces additional drug charges.  WTVY
  • Kenneth Glasgow, a pastor and voting rights activist and Rev. Al Sharpton's half-brother, was arrested this week on allegations of practicing law without a license after filing a motion with his KSG Ministries to stop the Dothan City Municipal Elections and claim that officials did not give proper absentee ballots to eligible voters in custody before Tuesday's vote; he was released on a $3,000 bond and faces up to a $500 fine and 6 months in jail if found guilty.  Dothan Eagle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Landmark Park in Dothan is seeking volunteer actors to bring spooky characters to life at its Night of Legends and Lore event (October 28 and 30). Organizers need 6 to 7 volunteers each night and will provide a full script; no acting experience is required.  Wiregrass Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A 13-year-old in Alabama made history by enrolling in college and drawing statewide and national attention—no local institution has yet seen a student that young. Local teen Darinda Beacham graduated from Dothan High in May with a 3.5 GPA, while teen Miley Taylor earned her bachelor's degree from Troy University at 19.  Wiregrass Daily News

  • On August 5, 2025, the 20th Judicial Circuit filed cases in Houston and Henry counties covering child support, civil claims, criminal offenses and traffic violations—juvenile records were not released and judges like Lori Collier Ingram and Benjamin Lewis handled multiple matters.  Rickey Stokes News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new study by the Center for Countering Digital Hate found that ChatGPT gave harmful advice on drugs, dieting, and suicide when it chatted with fake 13-year-olds—more than half of 1,200 chats showed unsafe details, alarming Wiregrass parents and educators. OpenAI said it is working to improve the tool's handling of sensitive topics.  Wiregrass Daily News
