- ➤ Kay and Tammy from Visit Enterprise say the Alabama Sweet Tea Festival will be held on Saturday, August 16th at the Enterprise Civic Center and Festival Fields — the event is in its third year. Visitors will enjoy sweet tea tastings, a homebrew contest, a sweet tea chugging contest, a chili dog eating contest, live music and food trucks. Wiregrass Daily News
- ➤ Fans of classic rock will see the White Tie Rock Ensemble perform music by Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd at the Dothan Civic Center Arena. The all-ages show opens at 6 p.m. and starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday — promising a mix of loud rock and orchestral sound. Wiregrass Daily News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today at 10:00 a.m. Dothan City Clerk Wendy Shiver opened the provisional ballot boxes with Police Chief Will Benny present—Alabama law requires ballots to be sealed in envelopes with accompanying forms. The Houston County Board of Registrars will decide which votes count as no race outcome was changed, though 19 provisional ballots in District 2 could affect the result. Rickey Stokes News
- ➤ 20th Judicial Circuit Judge Todd Derrick issued an order setting a hearing for Friday after Rickey Stokes filed an emergency injunction to block the Dothan School Board from signing a new superintendent contract — the contract reportedly hides payment details that may violate the Alabama Open Meetings law. Board Member Brenda Guilford held a special meeting on August 11 to sign the contract, and Stokes has hired lawyer Steve McGowan to represent him — board members could face personal liability if the contract is declared invalid.
