COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Wiregrass Blues Society is preparing for its monthly event at the Blue Moon Cafe in Dothan on August 19—local residents can expect live blues music.  WTVY
  • The Dothan Housing Authority is hosting a Susan Morrison scholarship dinner — ticket information is available on its Facebook page.  WTVY

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 3:12 PM today, a truck with a trailer loaded with lawn equipment tried to beat a train at a railroad crossing near Lake Street in North Range, causing trailer damage and injuring a train worker (who was taken to Southeast Health) while the truck driver was not hurt, and Dothan Police are investigating the incident.  Rickey Stokes News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Landmark Park is hosting the Smithsonian’s traveling Spark! exhibit, which shows stories of local innovation, creativity, and community ingenuity in the Wiregrass – featuring displays that highlight Dr. George Washington Carver’s work that turned peanuts into a key crop in Dothan. The exhibit is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sundays from noon to 4:00 p.m., with admission covering access to other park attractions.  Wiregrass Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Alabama Direct Admission Initiative is being rolled out this month to help high school seniors apply for college by letting them create a profile for over 200 colleges to reach out—Troy University is among the participants, and students who complete their profile by September 23 may win a $5,000 scholarship.  WTVY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On August 15, 2025, cases in the 20th Judicial Circuit in Houston and Henry Counties were held, with Judge Benjamin Lewis conducting initial appearances via video from the jail—even while on holiday—and other judges handling traffic, domestic, civil, and child support matters. Henry County did not have a docket available that day.  Rickey Stokes News
  • Voters in Dothan’s Districts 2, 3, and 5 will head to the polls on Sept. 16 for a run-off election to choose an Associate Commissioner and a Board of Education member—polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and key deadlines include Sept. 1 for registration and Sept. 9, Sept. 11, and Sept. 15 for absentee ballots.  Wiregrass Daily News
