- ➤ Houston County District Judge Benjamin Lewis filed a lawsuit on Friday alleging that a malfunctioning hay baler — whose hydraulic doors closed unexpectedly — killed his 20-year-old son Weston Lewis in June 2024, naming McHale Engineering and Atlantic and Southern Equipment as defendants over faulty design and workmanship. - ➤ Dothan Police issued a runaway juvenile alert for 15-year-old Aliyah McKenzie-Hardin, last seen at 11 a.m. on Aug. 21 near the 700 block of Sunset Drive while wearing a pink shirt, gray pants and red Crocs, and officials believe she may still be in the area near Johnson Homes—anyone with information is urged to contact police. - ➤ Municipal elections in Coffee and Dale counties will take place on Aug. 26 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.—voters must bring an approved photo ID and be registered by Aug. 11 while early absentee deadlines have passed; each municipality has its own polling location and candidate list with runoffs set for Sept. 23 if needed. - ➤ Dothan School Board Member Brenda Guilford filed a lawsuit on August 21 at 1:19 p.m. in Houston County Circuit Court accusing Chairperson Julie Mullins-Turner of criticizing board decisions on social media—she, who operates Brenda’s Preparatory School and has served five consecutive terms, claims misconduct and seeks full disclosure of board documents.
