  • Casey Green from Wiregrass Pets Rescue and Adoption Center said an adoption event is set for September 13 and that the center will open a new shelter soon — the event will help connect pets with new owners.  WTVY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Business owner Trant Bullard of True Vapor said that the new Dothan tax on vape products—10 cents per milliliter—will add about 30% to prices when it begins later this month, while a state tax takes effect in October.  WTVY

CRIME NEWS

  • Haleigh Leanne Smith, a 19-year-old woman, was arrested in Houston County on Sept. 3 for drug trafficking and marijuana possession and remains in jail with a bond set at $1,030,000 — $1,000,000 for trafficking and $30,000 for possession.  Wiregrass Daily News

  • A Powerball jackpot in Dothan stands at an estimated $1.7B for Saturday’s drawing—making it the third-largest lottery prize in history and promising a lump-sum payout of about $485 to $490M after taxes if the winner chooses that option.  Wiregrass Daily News

  • On September 4th, judges in the 20th Judicial Circuit in Houston and Henry County held hearings for criminal, domestic, and civil cases using virtual appearances from jail—Henry County did not list docket details.  Rickey Stokes News
