CRIME NEWS

  • On Friday morning, Troy Animal Rescue rescued 26 emaciated dogs chained at a Geneva County breeding operation believed to be used for dog fighting—veterinarians are now evaluating the animals for treatment before they may be adopted.  WTVY

CULTURE NEWS

  • The free Park Concert Series will debut at the new amphitheater in Porter Park and Events Plaza when it opens on Saturday, September 13, with festivities starting at 2 p.m. Headliners Billy Allen and The Pollies will perform from 6:30 to 8 p.m. — event organizers said about 20 vendors and five food trucks will join on closed St. Andrews Street while Foster Street remains open for coffee runs.  Wiregrass Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Time Youth Dothan's Nate Patterson (leader) plans to bring a charter school to Dothan after launching a new teen center (a first step) and will soon start the initiative to boost local education.  WTVY
  • Nate Patterson, founder of Time Youth Dothan, plans to open the first charter school, Time Leadership Academy, for grades 4-8 pending approval from the Dothan City School Board— the school is scheduled to open in the fall of 2027.  WTVY

  • Dothan mayor and Sen. Tuberville reacted to the Alabama Space Command announcement and expressed hopes that Circle City will become a supplier hub—bringing more jobs to the Wiregrass.  WTVY
