- ➤ Robert Wayne King, known as Wayne, passed away on September 5 at age 82 in Dothan after a life of service that included time in the Air Force and a 35-year UPS career, and he was a devoted deacon at Heritage Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, and his family has asked for donations to support Operation Christmas Child. Rickey Stokes News
- ➤ On Sept. 8, Troy University’s TROY for Troops Center will place 139 American flags on the quad in front of John R. Lewis Hall to honor Alabama veterans lost to suicide—part of Operation We Remember coordinated with state agencies during National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Wiregrass Daily News
- ➤ The City of Dothan will host a ribbon cutting for the new Porter Park and Events Plaza at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 125 N. Saint Andrews St. The event will feature live music, food trucks and the unveiling of new art installations to mark the official opening of a central space for community gatherings. - ➤ On September 6, the Dothan Fire Department held the WIREGRASS 9/11 MEMORIAL STAIR CLIMB at Rip Hewes Stadium where men, women and children climbed 100 stories to honor the 2,977 people who died in the September 11, 2001 attacks — a symbolic tribute to their heroic sacrifice. Rickey Stokes News
- ➤ The 4th Annual Cruisin’ For Kids Charity Event will be held Saturday, Sept. 20 at Harley-Davidson of Dothan and Holland Motorsports to raise funds for Wiregrass Children’s Home with a charity ride charging $2 per mile, a car and bike show, a cornhole tournament, and a silent auction.
