- ➤ Seven local entrepreneurs were selected to join the Fall 2025 Idea Accelerator, a program run by HudsonAlpha and Builders + Backers that offers 90 days of mentoring, classes and up to $5,000 for testing ideas. The program is part of plans to boost local innovation—Dothan is also planning a new $35 million innovation center set to open early next year. Wiregrass Daily News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A Dothan nonprofit and the city were named a top 50 finalist for the Levitt Music AMP Series Grant after placing second in a national vote — an honor that shows strong local support — and they plan to bring free outdoor concerts to the downtown amphitheater in Porter Park starting in 2026. The Levitt Foundation will review finalists and announce its decision on November 18 while the grant could provide up to $120,000 over three years for 7-10 concerts annually. WTVY

- ➤ In her first 100 days as president of Wallace Community College-Dothan, Dr. Kathy L. Murphy has built strong community partnerships and begun a new academic master plan focused on aligning programs with local job-needs. - ➤ Former justice Jay Mitchell and chief counsel Katherine Robertson clashed over $1.1 million in campaign funds from a Tennessee-based nonprofit, with Mitchell calling the money dark while Robertson defended the contribution+ a campaign supporter urged influential donor Leonard Leo to stay out of the race. - ➤ Dothan held runoffs on September 16 that saw very low voter turnout, with only three races on the ballot (voters had few choices). WTVY
- ➤ Bedwell, Kirksey, and Davis won the Dothan runoffs on Tuesday - each led their race last month, with no upsets in the recent polling. Dothan Eagle
- ➤ On September 16th, the 20th Judicial Circuit in Houston County held court sessions that included initial appearances conducted via TV from the jail for criminal and traffic cases—while Henry County had no docket available. Other judges including Benjamin Lewis, Loir Collier Ingram, R Todd Derrick, and M John Steensland III oversaw domestic and civil cases involving petitions and modifications. Rickey Stokes News

- ➤ Dothan’s The Uncarried group will host a free QPR suicide-prevention training on Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Dothan Housing Authority’s Old Carver school building (1001 Montana Street) to help residents access local mental-health resources. Wiregrass Daily News
