  • Vaughn-Blumberg Services will host Thrift-a-palooza on October 3rd and 4th in Dothan (a fundraising event) to raise funds for local causes (supporting community programs).  WTVY
  • Porter Park reopened today after undergoing new renovations that updated its playground and walking trails + local residents are now enjoying the refreshed park amenities.  Dothan Eagle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mystics du Mayhem is hosting Dothan’s Halloween Costume Party of the Year on October 25th at The Plant, featuring The Velcro Pygmies live—part of the event will raise funds for Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 27 and collect food donations for the Wiregrass Area Food Bank.  Rickey Stokes News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Kathy L. Murphy, Wallace Community College’s new president, reviewed her first 100 days and said she plans to grow college partnerships—she hopes to strengthen ties and boost programs in the coming months.  WTVY
  • Dr. Charisse Snell explained the AgriSTEM Expo 2025 as a new opportunity for middle and high school students to learn about agriculture, and the expo will be held at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds in the near future.  WTVY
  • Troy University announced that its Dothan campus will begin a Doctor of Chiropractic program after receiving approval from the Alabama Commission on Higher Education on September 12—pending accreditation from SACSCOC, the program will welcome its first class in Fall 2027. This initiative makes Troy the second public university to offer chiropractic education and aims to better meet the Southeast’s growing demand for chiropractic care.  Dothan Eagle

  • The Houston County Sheriff's Office will host its 3rd Annual Sheriff’s Cup Golf Tournament on Oct. 30 at RTJ Highland Oaks in Dothan — the event will feature an 18-hole, four-man scramble with prizes, awards and sponsorship options.  Wiregrass Daily News

  • September is newborn screening awareness month and health officials remind families that screening tests help detect and treat serious health conditions in newborns—early diagnosis can guide vital treatment.  WTVY
