- ➤ Wiregrass United Way launched its campaign kickoff tour on September 25th—focusing on gratitude as funds raised will go directly back to the Wiregrass community. The organization said donations will help support local programs. WTVY
- ➤ Metro Diner's Jason Clark explained that his restaurant has launched a round up program to fight childhood cancer — offering pumpkin waffles and other fall items. Dothan Leisure Services' Helen Wu said an outdoor movie event will take place today at Porter Park Plaza. WTVY

- ➤ Families gathered at Wiregrass Angel House today to honor 459 murder victims—each marked by a cross outside the center—as board members urged families to keep their loved ones' stories alive. WTVY
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Dothan author Karie Fugett is converting her 1940 Ford pickup into The Banned Wagon — a traveling bookstore that carries banned books to fight censorship. She has launched a GoFundMe to raise funds so the project can keep running. WTVY
- ➤ The Flag Crew is holding special flag events in the Wiregrass to honor veterans. Members said they remain grateful and committed to celebrating those who fought for freedom — a tribute to local heroes. WTVY
- ➤ The Dothan Area Botanical Gardens will host Scarecrows in the Gardens from October 1 through October 31 with unique handmade scarecrows following an Everything Music theme — visitors can enjoy free admission on October 5 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and vote for their favorite display. WTVY
- ➤ A Battle of the Blues Bands event will take place in Dothan on November 8th at Rain in Dothan as local bands will compete in a musical contest. The event will offer music fans a chance to enjoy live performances in our community. WTVY

- ➤ At 9:22 p.m. today in Houston County, Mike Schmitz called out school superintendent Brandy White during Commissioner Tracy Adams’s re-election announcement — he asked if the schools were first in math and noted they placed fourth in reading, prompting a round of applause when White confirmed the math score and Schmitz reacted with 'whoa.' - ➤ Today at 6:00 p.m., Houston County Commissioner Tracy Adams announced his bid for re-election at WRC in a packed room, saying he repaved 23 miles of roadway during his term and plans to repave 21.5 more miles while expanding the jail to improve public safety. His campaign focused on his record of handling citizen work orders and local projects & set the stage for the upcoming 2025 elections. Rickey Stokes News
- ➤ Cities in Alabama, including Dothan, are passing a 10-cent per milliliter tax plus additional fees on vape liquids to try to raise new revenue before Oct. 1 under a new state law. Dothan City Manager Randy Morris said the tax aims to capture extra funds while officials remain unsure of the total revenue and some business owners worry it could hurt small shops. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A horse in Coffee County died from rabies after showing symptoms for several days, and Lori Flippo of Wiregrass Horse Rescue and Sanctuary warned that all mammals can get rabies. The sanctuary will host a horse clinic on October 4th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 2140 Bethlehem Road in Midland City — offering low-cost rabies vaccines and dental checkups. WTVY
- ➤ Officials announced the 334 Prevention Project will target youth vaping after an incident at Dothan High School. The project will use education and prevention strategies—officials said more details are expected soon. WTVY
