COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Dothan woman’s generous crowdfunding effort secured her a new service dog named Shooter, who is now being trained at The Hey Farm (Baldwin County). He will soon move to Dothan to join his new family (pending final training).  WTVY
  • The 55th annual Claybank Jamboree Festival will offer activities for kids — food vendors, a car show and arts and crafts all set to create a fun day for the community. Organizers say the event is planned to bring neighbors together.  WTVY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mystics du Mayhem will host a Halloween Costume Party featuring the Velcro Pygmies at The Plant in downtown Dothan on Saturday, Oct. 25 — the event opens at 6:30 p.m. as a fundraiser for the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 27 with guests urged to bring nonperishable food for the Wiregrass Food Bank and enjoy a food truck on site.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Father Aaron Ott of St. Matthias Anglican Church in Dothan said the animal blessing event will take place on Saturday, October 4 — pet owners may bring their animals to have them blessed at the event.  WTVY
  • Bert Kreischer will perform his Permission to Party World Tour at the Dothan Civic Center on January 29, 2026 — tickets will be available starting October 2 for an online pre-sale and October 3 for the general public.  WTVY
  • Mary Miller and Aniya Turner report that 7th Light Band will host a City-Wide Breakfast & Worship event on Saturday, October 4 in Dothan. The band plans to bring the community together for a morning of music and prayer.  WTVY
  • Dothan-Houston County Library System unveiled new library cards featuring designs from contest winners Allie M.—15, Eleanor H.—12, and Holt M.—8; Allie and Eleanor’s designs are available at all branches while Holt’s special edition card is offered exclusively at the Ashford Branch. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wallace Community College-Dothan and Houston County Schools have started three new dual enrollment programs at Houston County Career Academy in Automotive Technology, Business Technologies, and Child Development—giving high school students a chance to earn credentials before graduation. Leaders say they will add more options in the future—aiming to meet local workforce needs.  Wiregrass Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Alabama Forestry Commission has issued a statewide Fire Danger Advisory because low rainfall and high temperatures have worsened drought conditions—raising the risk of wildfire across the state. The advisory urges residents to avoid burning debris and to keep water hoses ready as fire risks remain high.  WTVY

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Southeast Alabama EMS Council and Dothan Fire Department are offering a free one-hour CPR and AED training session—powered by Brightspeed—to help residents learn lifesaving skills in emergencies. Those who complete the course will receive a HeartSafe T-shirt and certificate while space remains limited.  Wiregrass Daily News
  • Dothan Leisure Services, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and National Fitness Campaign will open a second outdoor Fitness Court at James Oates Park on Thursday, October 2nd at 10:30 a.m.—the free court will feature seven exercise stations and digital wellness programming for adults 14 and older.  WTVY
