- ➤ Wiregrass Pets Rescue and Adoption Center will celebrate its grand opening on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 10:30 a.m.—the event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce at 2638 Hartford Highway. - ➤ Chris Warren, director of the Dothan Houston County Library System, has been named one of seven coaches for the 2025 Public Library Association Leadership Academy — he will share his 20 years of library experience with mid-career librarians — and he first took part in the academy in 2015. - ➤ The Southeast Health Foundation will host the 16th annual Champions of Hope on Oct 18 at The Plant in downtown Dothan, honoring four community members lost to cancer while raising funds to purchase a blood irradiator machine to help local patients. The event will offer a chip-timed 5K and 10K along with a noncompetitive walk and family activities—designed to keep treatment closer to home for cancer patients and premature babies in the NICU.
